History

  • Australia first competed at the IIHF inline Hockey World Championships in 1996 at Minneapolis, St. Paul / Minnesota (USA), then again in 1997 Anaheim California (USA)
  • In 1998 Australia competed at the Division I tournament held in Bratislava (Slovakia).
  • In 1999 Australia hosted a qualification tournament in Melbourne for the 2000 tournament held in the Czech Republic.
  • We attended again in 2001 in Ellenton Florida (USA)
  • 2002 was the only time Australia did not compete at the Tournament but in the countries return to the championships in 2003 Nuremberg (Germany) saw the team win their first medal a Bronze in Division I, and have competed at the Championships every year since.

With the shortage of rinks in Australia it has at times made it difficult but the team strives to improve all the time, the inline team in Australia has proven to be a stepping stone for the National Ice Hockey Team as many of the current ice hockey players first got their taste of IIHF international hockey thru the Inline tournament.

The Team is excited and very much looking forward to this years tournament in the Czech Republic.

Best players of the tournament selected by the directoriate are Roman Handl (goalkeeper - CZE), Tomas Demel (defenseman - CZE) and Jose Cadiz Jr. (forward - USA).

Best players of Division I announced by the directoriate are goalkeeper James Tanner (GBR), defenseman Youssef Riener (AUT) and forward John Dolan (GBR).

 

25/6 | Medal games referees
Gold medal game Czech Republic - USA will be officiated by Carl Friday (CAN) and Jukka Virta (FIN). Radim Prchal (CZE) and Crt Kralj (SLO) will take care of the bronze medal game between Canada and Sweden.
