Introduction and history

Team New Zealand is pleased to be able to compete once again in the IIHF World Inline Hockey Championships being held in the Czech Republic (Pardubice).

Inline Hockey is a developing sport in New Zealand with approximately 2500 players playing in organised leagues around the country. The association promotes competition for all ages from Under 10 years old to Senior Men and also includes junior and women’s teams. In some areas there are also leagues running catering to school teams.

This is the 17th year New Zealand has held their own National championships with up to 65 teams competing across 8 different grades.

To be able to attend this prestigious international event in Pardubice is a great opportunity for our senior players to experience inline hockey at this level on the “world stage”.

In 2007 the team competed in Germany and finished with the silver medal after a very close game with Brazil in the final in Division 1 only losing to an overtime goal.

In 2009 Team Brazil visited New Zealand and competed in an 8-game exhibition series at NZ National Championships.

The cost for our players to enter world championships is huge – with little sponsorship or funding support. It is hoped that Team New Zealand will compete successfully at the 2011 world championships in Pardubice.
