Sound of vuvuzelas didn´t help South Africa against Australia

Dean Dunstan had a great second period and mainly because of his three points, Australia took the lead. After a slow beginning when none of the teams wanted to make a mistake, the second period brought a more lively performance out of the South African players. Being faster wasn´t enough, though. Australia nailed the first half with four goals.

Game report

Waiting for the first goal ended up in 10th minute with Olivier Rozdarz precise shot passing the glove of Bock. Next minutes were devoted to Dunstan´s scoring machine. He didn´t manage to capitalize the play for the first time but then he scored twice within two minutes and added one assist 8 minutes later. And one more at the beginning of the third period, when Jamie Bourke scored from rebound.

One-team-show went on and Nicholas Cleland and Michael Casaceli each scored after asststed at the previous goal.

South Africans had to wait for their biggest scoring chance till 33rd minute. Cameron Birrel who hit the post in the first half managed to overcome Robledodelabarra for the first time. His lone goal was followed by Australians Sean Jones and his breakaway within one minute. And the poor South Africans were even scored against from the red line with Christopher Brophy´s shot.

Andre Marais tried to rebuild the South African reputian with two goals but they only framed the tenth goal of Australia scored by Nicholas Cleland. Ausralia´s great performance ended up with the last shot that found the crease. Jordan Gavin set the score 11-3 for Australia.

Game reactions

Michael Flaherty (Team Australia coach): Today´s game was very exciting. Guys played very well and showed some nice combinations. Yesterday we scored one goal out of 40 shots, today was a different story. We are of course very happy, but there is big challenge in front of us right tomorrow. Austria is a very difficult opponent. If we play like today, we can succeed.
Gavin Smith (Team South Africa coach): We still have to work on our transition to attack and powerplays, unfortunately we lose the puck way too often. We have to try to succeed at least in our third group game. The tournament here in Pardubice is one of the best I have ever been to.
