Game report

After only 50 seconds, Gregor Baumgartner scored, but he could not celebrate for long because Adrian Nash equalized not long afterward. The draw did not last for long, again, because of another goal from Baumgartner. At the end of period, Australia`s Rozdarz passed to Dean Dunstan and he beat the Austrian goalie for the second time.

The goal feast continued in the second. The first goal of the quarter was scored by Austrian Axel Riegler. Team Australia did not give up, though, and Oliver Rozdarz equalized the game again. But after that, three Austrian goals came: Lukas Draschkowitz scored twice and another goal was added by Mario Altmann. The Australians could answer only once more before halftime, on Jamie Bourke`s shot, and trailed 6-4 at the break.

The game slowed down in the second half, and it was comfortable for the Austrians, who added two more goals. Lukas Draschowitz passed to Christoph Drazchkowitz in the 29th minute and the latter scored a nice goal. Four mintues later, Mario Altmann sent a great shot and beat Muir again.

With the outcome already decided, the last quarter of this game was played only out of necessity. No more goals were scored, and the Austrians could celebrate their bronze medals for the World Championship`s Division I.

"We are all very disappointed. We played very bad game," Austrians were simply better," Michal York says sadly after the game.

Game reactions

Michael Flaherty (Team Australia coach): We are disappointed, sure. We came here for medal, we got into medal game but we don´t have any. We did not have our best day today, Austrians were too strong for us. I don ´t think that we played bad any game here. We have to improve moving for the next year´s championship and learn from mistakes what we did.
Jürgen Leibig (Team Austria coach): We played very well in tactic. We defended smart and used our chances. We are happy that we won bronze medals.
