Team Slovakia to Division I after 9-0 loss against Germany

The match could have been called a “friendly”. The next World Inline Hockey Championship takes place in Germany, and the host team goes into the Top Division automatically. Team Slovakia would have dropped to the Division I, no matter what the result was. Still, they were hoping for a better result than this.

Game report

Despite German best player Thomas Greilinger left home after blown out with the United States, Team Germany was strong enough to outplay Slovakia 9 – 0.

In 4th minute rebounding Florian Engel scored the 1st goal and Germany went ahead. After the horn sounded the score was 3 – 0 as Stefan Ortolf and Christian Wichert took other nice targeted shots.

Slovaks seemed to be disgusted with the game, which is easy to understood. Vitalij Aab and Daniel Rossi increased the score to 5 – 0, then the great Slovak chance came. However, Filip Novak did not beat Dennis Berger in a breakaway. So Ortolf and Aab scored their 2nd goals in the game to 7 – 0 turn on the scoreboard.

”Today it was one of the easier matches. I am glad for my clean sheet though,” German goalkeeper Denis Berger said.

Finally, Henrik Holscher completed the score sheet with two more goals. One of the best Slovak player in the rink was Marek Priechodsky. “There was no motivation for us in the match as we knew we had fallen in the Division I. The game against Finland was important for us yesterday, we played our best, but it was not enough,” Slovak defenseman Priechodsky said.

Game reactions

Georg Holzmann (Team Germany Coach): We expected a tight game, but it did not happen. We wanted to win on the rink, although it was decided before, who will be relegated. We scored nine times and did not concede. That is a good end of the tournament.
Imrich Antal (Team Slovakia coach): We wanted to listen to the national anthem for the first time in the tournament, but the very late Finnish goal took us down yesterday. I regret playing so bad today. We were weaker this year because many teams rejected to send their players to our national team.
