Game report

Any suggestions of a possible surprise were diminished in the first fifteen minutes of the game. Hat-trick hero of the last game John Dolan was on fire again and opened the scoring with a slapshot at 3:47. Philip Hamer opened his goal account after 10 minutes, but Dolan was the one getting his hat-trick first as he scored on both sides of the first break to make it 4-0. With a fourth conceded goal, Fernandez in the Argentinian goal was replaced by Marcolongo.

Other British players started to get on the scoreboard in the middle of the game when Nathan Finney finished a quick combination and Matt Viney scored with a close range tap-in. Luck was with the British team, as well, when Danny Hutchinson´s pass was deflected into their own net by one of the Argentinian players. There was no sign of a comeback for the South American team. “We did not play well today and did not take our chances. It is impossible to win like that,” said Juan Ardle of Team Argentina.

British goalfest continued in the third period thanks to Kurt Waller and Philip Hamer. They exchanged goals twice and moved the score over the ten. Hamer also completed his hat-trick. Kris Hendy then took the last word and scored four second before the end. “We wanted to keep the tempo up, because some of the Argentinian players are really fast. We will likely face Australia in the next game and have to perform well as a team,” said Team GB´s Karl Niamatali.

Game reactions

Andrew Sillitoe (Team GB coach): We had to keep our concentration and tempo for the whole game. The players managed to do it and I think the score shows that. I just hope we can perform like this again tomorrow and go through to the final.

Roberto Villagra (Team Argentina coach): It was not a good game. The players did not play according to our tactics. We did not play as a team and did not score. I am disappointed.
