Austrians surprisingly lost to Great Britain
British players entered their second tournament game well and in one moment they had even a four-goal lead. Austrians didn’t give up and stood only one goal behind after the 3rd period. However three British goals in the last period didn’t allow any thrilling ending.

Game report
Austrians entered the game as favourites but they kept this role only in the very beginning. Their aggressive forechecking didn’t change the score, so the British did thanks to John Dolan. British team controlled the game from this moment while Austrians couldn’t find the right way. In the beginning of second period Philip Hamer returned from the penalty bench and increased his team’s lead. Advantage of two goals allowed British to concentrate on defensive work and Austrians had a hard job getting themselves into some chances. After another two goals by John Dolan and Kari Niamatali, this game seemed to be decided and success of Christoph Draschkowitz didn’t improve Austrian situation that much.
However, the longer pause between second and third period encouraged the home team. Austrians began to move better and British goalie had to face many chances, but he could do nothing against shots of Gregor Baumgartner and Andre Niece. Couple of Austrian fans loudly demanded equalizing goal but exactly the opposite happened and British overtook the activity again.
As a result Philip Hamer secured his team two-goal lead and after a while Alex Pearman shot another one. Austrians didn’t seem to have enough strengths to shoot at least three goals. Daniel Hutchinson set the final score 7:3 in the 45th minute.

Game reactions
Jürgen Leibig (coach of Austria):Although we had expected the British to be a tough team we entered the game badly. Our players didn’t concentrate and we made couple of silly mistakes which Britain utilized to score. British play a very aggressive style, they have appropriate players for this. I don’t mind and we didn’t stay behind in this way, I think.
Andrew Sillitoe (coach of Great Britain):We’ve played well in the offensive today. We lost our concentration in the half but in the fourth period we managed to secure our victory.
