Game report
First interesting moment of the game came in the 4th minute when Czech defender stood alone at the left post which was well covered by Jochen Vollmer. Czech activity was also boosted with a power play in which Tenkrát and Koudelka presented a good-looking combination. Czechs had to wait for their lead another 3 minutes. Then finally Petr Tenkrát utilized a quick pass from behind the net - 0:1.
Germans waited for their first big chance ten minutes. But Boris Blank didn’t succeed, Rachůnek on the other side hit the post, so the first quarter ended 0:1.
German team had a promising enter into the next period, Handl had to face shots of Eduard Lewandowski and Thomas Greilinger. However it was their opponent again who turned the red light on. Pavel Strýček got enough time to send his previous shot behind the line - 0:2. This goal highlighted Czech domination in the next minutes and audience could enjoy couple of exciting combinations. Especially the one from the 22nd minute will definitely belong to the tournament highlights. Martin Vozdecký in one-on-one situation instead of shooting passed backwards to Lukáš Brož whose shot from between the circles ended in the net.
The third combinations offered less combinations and less shooting. And it was a good choice, especially for the Czech Team. Goals of Vozdecký, Mojžíš, Rachůnek, Kameš and Brož made the crowd demand another two to finish the ten.
This objective became more real in 38th minute after shorthanded goal of Jiří Polanský. Next moments belonged to German forward Thomas Greilinger. His first try ended on the post but in the 46th minutes Germans could finally celebrate. Of course thanks to a 9:1 win Czech Team was the happier after the final whistle.
Game reactions
Georg Holzmann (German coach): It wasn’t a good game from our side at all. Czech players were much faster and technically better. I have to congratulate them, because they have been the best team we had played against during last two tournaments. We are playing our next game tomorrow, so there is no time for any changes. We will have to play faster and try to make less mistakes.
Petr Hemský (Czech coach): I didn’t expect such a good entrance into the tournament as we had. We’we played good hockey and our goalie helped us a lot. Of course we’ve been lucky with those posts and bars but I’m glad our offensive game was so productive. It´s just a pity we conceded a goal in last minutes.
