Argentina enjoys a chance to start in Pardubice
Roberto Fabian Villagra is a coach of Team Argentina at this year´s World Championship and he together with his team is trying to enjoy the unexpected experience. „Japan should be here instead of us, but they had to give up after the earthquake,“ explains a twisted Argentinian fate.
Argentina has so far lost both matches of the tournament. How satisfied are you with your team´s performances?
We played as well as we could. We have very young players and it makes a difference. We came here to enjoy the experience and try our best to cause an upset.
What goals do you have for this tournament?
We want to improve on our last year´s position, when we finished last in Division I. As I said, we have a young team and every game is interesting and enjoyable for our players. I do criticize them a bit for a lack of physical play, but that comes with age.
How did your team prepare for the tournament?
We did not prepare at all. Japan should play here instead of us, but they had to give up after the earthquake. There was no time to prepare, so we do not have high ambitions.
Is there any inline league being played in Argentina?
Yes, we have a league with a few teams. It is played only in some months, not for a whole year.
Which club in Argentina is the best?
Best team is definitely Panteras, where we got most of the players. Second good team is Cat.
Can you compare the championship here and the one in Sweden last year?
This year is definitely better. Beautiful arenas, we are taken care off really well. Our team host is great!
Did you play any friendly games before the tournament?
Yes, we lost 5:7 to NOVAcom Pardubice two days before the tournament. It was a nice game and a good preparation. We would like to thank our opponent for an opportunity to play against them.
How did you put together a squad for the championship?
Players are from the Argentinian league. We asked them if they would like to go. It is really simple. I would just like them to be more aggressive.
How do you like Pardubice?
It is beautiful. We did not have time to walk through the city yet, but we are looking forward to it.
